Club Motorsports Statement
Club Motorsports (CMI) is disappointed with the Tamworth Planning Board’s actions and its decision to not issue a Special Use Permit Application (SUP) to CMI. Once again, CMI will be forced to defend its rights and the rights of Tamworth land owners in court.
From the start of the meeting it was apparent that the Planning Board was under the direction of the opposition group Focus Tamworth. Focus set the agenda and the Planning Board followed their script. Despite the direction of the Carroll County Superior Court, the Planning Board was not interested in having a dialogue with CMI. After four-years and with over 2,500 pages of evidence in the certified record, CMI anticipated the Board would discuss the specific wetland impacts requested with the applicant and its experts. It was also very apparent that the four board members remained confused on how to apply the ordinance to the CMI application.
Community and business leaders as well as former Planning Board members including Mr. Wayne Lloyd who participated in the CMI application in 2006 who attended the hearing described the Board’s actions as an “embarrassment to Tamworth.” Mr. Lloyd said it best. “The Planning Board was confused and did not understand the CMI application and how to apply the ordinance. They did not care about the facts. Their only goal was to deny the permit without any real reasons.”
Club Motorsports remains dedicated to building the motorsports country club. CMI will continue the construction of the project that started this past July. For photos and video clips of the construction of the facility, please visit www.clubmotorsports.com.
