AP Wire News: Club Motorsports withdraws permit application

Tuesday, August 24, 2004

DERRY, N.H. (AP) -- A developer has withdrawn a permit application it submitted to the town of Tamworth in June as part of a plan to build a private motorsports park.

Club Motorsports President and CEO Stephan Condodemetraky said in a statement Monday that the application "exceeds our permitting needs."  He did not disclose whether the company would reapply.

Residents have opposed the $28 million project. It would include a more than three-mile, 18-turn, European-style road course for cars and motorcycles. The developer proposed building it just off Route 25 near the Ossipee town line. Residents raised noise and environmental concerns.

The state has granted the company a wetlands permit, ruling that the project would not be dangerous for wetlands, surface water or groundwater. The state also said noise wouldn't be much of an issue and the track wouldn't affect nearby wildlife.

It was only one of several required permits. Condodemetraky said in the statement that the company is still working with the State Environmental Services Department and Army Corps of Engineers on other requirements.
